We at Unstoppable Domains are thrilled to announce our collaboration with Blockchain.com on a strategy to establish a Web3-centric, DNS-enabled domain in anticipation of next year's ICANN gTLD initiative. This marks blockchain.com as one of the largest Web3 companies to establish such a blueprint, centered around the beloved .blockchain domain.
The vision for .blockchain:
Our collaboration centers on the “.blockchain” Web3 domain, in which we will submit an application in time for ICANN’s eagerly anticipated registration program. This strategic move is aimed at bridging the gap between Web2 and Web3 domains, fostering seamless integration of decentralized and traditional internet infrastructures, and realizing the full potential of web3 domains.
Why Blockchain.com?
With over 40 million verified users, 90 million wallets, and $1.2 trillion in crypto transactions, Blockchain.com is the ideal partner for this venture. Their expertise and proven ability to drive adoption perfectly align with our goal of bridging the gap between Web2 and Web3 domains.
What’s Next for .blockchain?
This collaboration with Blockchain.com is a strategic move to prepare for the application and ensure we are ready to offer a robust, integrated solution when the time comes. If we are successful overall, this application is just the start of what's possible for .blockchain and other Unstoppable top-level domains. Leading by example, the .blockchain domain would join the ranks of iconic ICANN-registered generic top-level domains (gTLDs) like .com, .net, .org, .biz, and .info. This would allow .blockchain domain owners to benefit from standard Web2 functions, such as emailing and website resolution in popular browsers like Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, and Safari, while retaining all of the existing incredible features of Unstoppable Web3 domains. This is the ninth company we’re working with for the gTLD planning and strategy, therefore, we look forward to following a similar trajectory with our other partner/branded top-level-domains.
A Shared Vision
We will closely follow the ICANN gTLD application round next year. Our collaboration with Blockchain.com is a strategic move to prepare for the application and to ensure we are prepared to offer a robust, integrated solution when the time comes. If the application is successful, the .blockchain domain will join the ranks of iconic ICANN-registered generic top-level domains (gTLDs) like .com, .net, .org, .biz and .info. Looking Ahead
This is just the beginning. Blockchain.com marks the ninth company we're strategizing and planning to take forward in the next ICANN gTLD application round. We foresee a future where many more Web3 TLDs receive their Web2 “twins,” allowing users, brands, and companies to leverage the best of both worlds. This initiative is set to fully harness the power of Web3 domains within the traditional internet space, offering unparalleled opportunities for digital identity and blockchain technology.
