Honoring the Originals, and Where They’re Headed Next

From the earliest days of onchain naming, a core group of Unstoppable TLDs (.crypto, .nft, .wallet, .bitcoin, .dao, .zil) helped define what digital identity could look like beyond the traditional web.
They introduced human readable wallet names.
They enabled onchain websites.
They gave communities, creators, and crypto users a way to own their identity onchain.
Today, we’re honoring those pioneers and announcing the next chapter in their evolution.
A selection of Unstoppable Original TLDs are being prepared for application in the upcoming ICANN gTLD round, aiming to position them to expand from onchain native identity layers into the broader Domain Name System (DNS).
The Originals That Started It All
Each of these domains have played a foundational role in shaping onchain identity, powering wallets, communities, creators, and crypto native brands in the onchain world.
.ZIL: A Pioneer of Onchain Domains
Launched in July 2019, .ZIL was Unstoppable’s first ever Web3 domain. Built on the Zilliqa blockchain, it marked a milestone in digital identity by introducing domains without renewal fees and enabling users to replace complex crypto wallet addresses with human-readable names.
As the launchpad for onchain naming, .ZIL laid the foundation for onchain identity and helped pave the way for a more user owned internet.
.Crypto: The Most Popular Unstoppable Onchain Domain
Launched in 2019 as the first Unstoppable domain on Ethereum, .Crypto helped bring onchain naming into the mainstream.
It introduced permanent ownership, human readable crypto payments, and wallet based custody, laying the groundwork for the broader onchain domain movement that followed.
.Wallet: The Domain for Digital Wallet Identity
As digital wallets became central to onchain interaction, .Wallet was introduced to simplify how users identify and manage them.
By transforming long wallet strings into human readable domains, .Wallet made crypto payments and onchain engagement more accessible, providing a self sovereign identity layer for a growing global user base.
.NFT: The Onchain Domain for Creators & Collectors
As NFTs ushered in a new era of digital ownership, .NFT emerged as the domain built for creators and collectors shaping tokenized culture.
From digital art to gaming and metaverse assets, it became a recognizable identity layer for communities participating in the NFT ecosystem.
.Bitcoin: A Domain for the Bitcoin Maximalists
Built for those deeply rooted in the Bitcoin ecosystem, .Bitcoin provides a digital identity aligned with the principles of decentralization and peer-to-peer value exchange.
It extends Bitcoin’s presence beyond transactions by offering a recognizable naming layer for advocates, developers, and communities committed to the network’s foundational ethos.
.DAO: The Domain for Decentralized Communities & Governance
As decentralized autonomous organizations redefined how communities coordinate and govern, .DAO emerged as a natural identity layer for collective ownership.
Created for contributors, protocol builders, and community-led organizations, .DAO reflects transparency, collaboration, and shared governance, providing a recognizable naming standard for decentralized coordination.
The Next Chapter for Unstoppable Originals
Since their launch, these Originals have lived natively onchain, enabling wallet usernames, onchain websites, governance hubs, and creator identities.
We’ve confirmed our intent to submit applications for all of these Unstoppable Originals in ICANN’s upcoming gTLD round, representing their next evolution.
If approved, these domains would gain the ability to operate within the traditional DNS root (like .com and .net), unlocking universal browser resolution, email functionality, and broader internet compatibility. It would also make them accessible to a significantly wider global audience beyond today’s onchain ecosystem.
The Originals represent the roots of Unstoppable’s naming ecosystem. They introduced millions to the idea that you could own your name, not rent it.
Preparing them for ICANN is both a tribute to their impact and an investment in their longevity, as well as a signal that early ownership today may precede broader availability tomorrow.
Early Ownership Today. Future Possibilities Ahead.
